Dental Inlays and Onlays

Dental inlays and onlays are used for a more conservative approach compared to restoration with dental crowns. They are used to repair teeth that have suffered mild to moderate decay, cracks, or other damage where a crown is not warranted. Inlays refer to procedures where the bonding material is limited to the center of the tooth, where onlays refer to those where bonded material can extend further onto the cusps of the tooth.

How it’s done:
Quite often two visits will be needed to place inlays or onlays. At the first appointment, Dr. Peyser will take an impression of the tooth, which will be sent to a lab to create the finalized inlay or onlay. A temporary inlay or onlay will be placed before you leave that day.

At your second visit, the temporary will be removed and the permanent inlay or onlay will be placed.
