Tooth Extractions Performed and Cared for by Our Best Dentist in Falls Church
An extraction is a procedure used in order to remove the tooth from the mouth. This procedure is typically only utilized if the tooth is damaged beyond repair and all other forms of treatment, carefully thought out and discussed with the best dentist in Falls Church, have been exhausted. Reasons for needing an extraction include:
• Severe tooth decay or infection
• Advanced gum disease
• A tooth is blocking other teeth from coming in
• To make room for other teeth in orthodontic work
• Wisdom teeth are often extracted either before or after they come in
What to expect
Dr. Peyser will administer an anesthetic to the area in order to numb it and reduce discomfort. You should only feel pressure during the extraction, and never any pain. Typically, Dr. Peyser is able to remove the tooth within just a few minutes.
Immediately after the tooth extraction, a small amount of bleeding is normal and a patch of gauze will be placed in the affected area. The area may bleed minimally for the next 24 hours or so and taper off after that. Follow our below post-op instructions and talk to Dr. Peyser before the extraction if you have any further questions.
